Rwanda celebrates International Volunteerism Day

Rwanda on Friday, December 12, 2025, celebrated International Volunteerism Day during a national event held in Rubavu District, under the theme “Volunteerism, Our Dignity” (Ubukorerabushake, Ishema ryacu).

The annual observance highlights the vital role of volunteers in driving socio-economic development and fostering solidarity, resilience and inclusive growth across communities.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of State Marie Solange Kayisire commended the contribution of volunteers to Rwanda’s development journey, noting that their commitment has been instrumental in advancing poverty reduction, disaster response, and social cohesion.

“Today, we express our gratitude to all volunteers in Rwanda. From the village level, they have played a critical role in eradicating poverty, responding to disasters, and promoting a healthy, united society,” she said.

The Minister called on volunteers to sustain their dedication and actively contribute to the successful implementation of the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), emphasizing volunteerism as a cornerstone of citizen participation and national development.

As of 2025, Rwanda has more than 2.5 million volunteers engaged across various sectors, working to build a better, more inclusive and resilient nation.
