Winners awarded in 2025 Umurenge Kagame Cup Finals
On June 14–15, 2025, the finals of the Umurenge Kagame Cup tournament took place in Musanze District, bringing together sports enthusiasts from across the country to compete for trophies and medals.
The tournament featured eight disciplines: Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Sitball, Cycling, Running, Long Jump, and the traditional chess game known as Igisoro.
Minister Patrice Mugenzi attended the finals and praised the participating teams and attendees for promoting good leadership and encouraging talent development in sports.
“We must nurture talent through this tournament. We already have testimonies showing how this competition contributes to the growth of our sports sector by identifying new talent,” he said.
Minister Mugenzi also presented awards to the top-performing teams. In men's football, Jabana Sector from Gasabo District emerged victorious, while the Mahembe women’s team from Nyamasheke took the trophy in the women’s category. In basketball, Musanze won in both the men’s and women’s categories.
In volleyball, the men’s category was won by Kicukiro, while Gicumbi claimed the women’s title. Kirehe triumphed in the men’s Sitball competition, with Bugesera winning in the women’s category.
Outstanding individual performers in Cycling, Long Jump, Running, and Igisoro were also awarded.
